Laura Lombardo appointed Principal Solicitor

We are delighted to announce Laura Lombardo has been appointed PIAC’s new Principal Solicitor, following the departure of Alexis Goodstone last month.

‘With a decade of litigation experience, Laura has a long history of providing legal assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people with disability. We’re thrilled that she will now be leading our legal practice,’ said PIAC CEO, Jonathon Hunyor.

Laura has held the position of Senior Solicitor in PIAC’s Strategic Litigation team for two and a half years. In that time she has run systemic litigation on a range of issues with a particular focus on disability discrimination and worked on PIAC’s mental health and insurance project, which aims to end systemic discrimination against people with a history of mental illness by the insurance industry.

‘I’m looking forward to working with the extraordinary team at PIAC in this new role and to running public interest cases on important issues faced by people in our community to achieve lasting change’ said Laura.

Prior to working at PIAC, Laura was a Pro Bono Manager at commercial law firm Ashurst, where she was responsible for the firm’s pro bono practice in NSW and the NT. As part of the role Laura supervised a weekly legal clinic run from The Exodus Foundation in Ashfield advising on a range of civil law issues affecting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
