Towards Truth a finalist in the Australian Human Rights Awards

Our world-first truth-telling project Towards Truth is a Law Award finalist in this year’s Australian Human Rights Awards.

Towards Truth is partnership between the Justice and Equity Centre and the Uluru Dialogues at the UNSW Indigenous Law Centre, responding to The Uluru Statement from the Heart‘s call for truth-telling as a foundation for justice. The project compels Australians to confront the deliberate, systematic choices that have impacted the human rights of First Nations peoples by documenting on a publicly-available website the laws and policies that have shaped the lives of First Nations people in Australia since 1788.

‘We’re thrilled to be recognised alongside such an outstanding group of finalists,’ says Towards Truth Project Director Anna Harding.

‘This nomination belongs to everyone who has been part of the Towards Truth project so far: our past and current staff, our committed volunteers, the partners who provide pro bono legal research, the academics and experts who review our work, the organisations and individuals who have funded the project, and the communities and specialists who have used and shared our research.’

The winners of the five Human Rights Award categories are announced on Human Rights Day on 10 December. Thanks to the Australian Human Rights Commission for this recognition.
