Our submission highlights how human rights in NSW are not adequately protected, and provides case studies from our Homeless Persons’ Legal Service which demonstrate this.
We recommend that the NSW Government legislate a comprehensive Human Rights Act
to promote a fair, just and equal society for everyone, and provide details on the key elements needed for an effective Act.
Our submission also emphasises that a Human Rights Act is needed alongside anti-discrimination protections, which only protect a limited set of rights. We recommend that protections against religious discrimination in NSW legislation should be resolved prior to, or simultaneously with, the introduction of a Human Rights Act.
