The Central Coast community is growing, placing pressure on Central Coast Council Water (CCCW) to ensure services can meet new demands. They must replace and maintain ageing infrastructure and meet improved health, quality and environmental impact standards, while protecting affordable and equitable access to the water services the community needs.

That’s why we identified a range of important recommendations as part of our response to IPART’s Review of Prices for Central Coast Council’s Water and Wastewater Services Consultation Paper, seeing this as a critical opportunity to identify and implement major reforms that will help Central Coast households. These include:

  • Further reform of the framework governing Central Coast Council water and wastewater, to implement more robust regulation and deal with long term governance and sustainability issues;
  • changes to the structure of Central Coast Council water and wastewater including possible amalgamation with larger utilities, and;
  • considering wider reforms to the approach of water regulation, including how the cost of infrastructure for growth and improved water security and resilience is recovered.
  • Progressing reforms for more consistent and substantial payment assistance support for water services across NSW.

What’s next?

We’ll continue to engage with this process and others that help highlight the need for comprehensive reform in water regulation, funding and affordability support across NSW, including contributing to the current process reviewing water rebates and supports.
