The Demand Side Factor Statement (DSFS) is an important input for the Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) Integrated System Plan (ISP), and impacts how efficiently energy networks are developed, and ultimately how much consumers pay for energy.

That’s why we’re calling for a wider range of information sources to be used to inform the DSFS in our response to AEMO’s consultation paper on Demand Side Factors Information Guidelines. Getting input from a range of demand side factor experts will support network development that’s fairer and more efficient.

The DSFS can do more to make the future of energy networks better fit-for-purpose. We’re recommending that AEMO:

  • Uses a range of perspectives beyond distribution network service providers (DNSP) to build a more consumer-focused picture of what the future of demand side factors and opportunities might look like.
  • Produces a second supplementary guideline, which outlines the type of information it will need from non-DNSPs to contribute to a more effective DSFS.

What’s next?

We will be submitting a rule change proposal that promotes the joint planning and development of all elements of the electricity system through the ISP. This includes demand side factors, distribution networks and transmission networks.
