We made a submission to the government’s consultation regarding Rules to govern the new planning framework that will be rolled out in the coming years for NDIS participants.
We highlighted that disability organisations would face difficulties engaging with this consultation, as government has not yet made available many important details of the new framework. We outlined problems flowing from the NDIA’s current practice of recording participants’ medical diagnoses on their system and using these to determine supports funding, while issuing ‘Notices of Impairment’ to participants that only list broad categories of impairment. We also made several recommendations as to the proposed Rules regarding how participants can spend funding in their NDIS plans, or obtain certain listed ‘stated supports’, aimed at increasing participant choice and control and transparency within the planning process.
