Effective benchmarking is an important part of effective network regulation and ensuring efficient investment and operation that promotes consumer interests in affordable energy. Existing benchmarking and processes can be improved.
That’s why our submission in response to the Australian Energy Regulator’s (AER) Annual benchmarking reports 2025 – Quantanomics phase 2 report recommends changes to the process, including:
- Restructuring consultation processes for more meaningful consumer input;
- network utilisation metrics that better assess how effectively networks deliver value to consumers; and
- identifying efficient curtailment rates to protect against overinvestment.
What’s next?
We’ll continue to be a strong consumer voice in recommending changes to benchmarking and other processes which help improve the efficiency of network investment and operation, to ensure consumers are paying no more than is necessary for reliable and sustainable energy services.
