Amidst rapid changes of the energy transition, NSW regulations must be updated to adapt and ensure they are fit to support safe, reliable, affordable and efficient outcomes for NSW households.
That’s why our submission to NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s (DCCEEW) Energy Supply General and Safety and Network Management Regulations 2026 consultation paper focussed on recommendations for reform which align with and support recent national reforms and help implement an equitable transition for NSW households. These include:
- Restrict the use of remote de-energisation for inability to pay;
- expanding the Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW’s (EWON) jurisdiction to include emerging energy technologies;
- updates to the Social Programs for Energy Code ensure responses are proportionate to the level of potential consumer harm;
- amendments to strengthen the operation and integrity of the Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) and Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS), and;
- Removing unfair concessions for hydrogen production facilities.
What’s next?
DCCEEW will release the remade ES (General) Regulation and ES (Safety) Regulation by September 2026. This is part of a range of legislative and regulatory updates in NSW where we will be focussed on ensuring consistent support for an efficient and equitable energy system for that works for all NSW households.
