Reforms that improve outcomes for NSW residents of embedded networks are well overdue. These households experience significant inequities and lack of pricing protections that is simply unfair.
That’s why our submission to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal’s (IPART) Embedded Networks Consultation Paper consultation paper focuses on the implementation of reforms that put people first. These include that IPART should:
- Take a universal approach to billing that meets the needs of all households;
- proceed with its proposed implementation timeline, which includes benchmarking maximum prices yearly in July;
- provide clear information to households and industry on the regulations that apply to them and how they will be enforced, and;
- Work with NSW DCCEEW to ensure pricing methods and billing standards are extended to include consumer energy resource (CER) use.
What’s next?
IPART will release its recommendations later this year and the new protections are expected to be enacted sometime in 2027. We will continue to advocate for further reforms, so residents of embedded networks don’t face further unnecessary disadvantage.
