PIAC previously made a submission into the lower house inquiry into the Protocol for Homeless People in Public Places, and on Friday the 7th of August we were invited to attend the public hearing to speak to our submission. Consumer advocate and StreetCare member Rebecca Warfield attended the hearing on behalf of the StreetCare group, accompanied by Project Officer Maddy Humphreys and HPLS Managing Solicitor Roslyn Cook. Rebecca made PIAC’s opening statement on her experiences of government officials interacting with people experiencing homelessness in public places and what necessary steps must be taken to ensure The Protocol remains an effective approach to ensure the human rights of all people are respected.
