2SER: Call for coronial inquest to investigate homelessness deaths

Bikram Lama was a young Nepali man who came to Australia on a student visa and tragically died last year while sleeping rough in Hyde Park in Sydney’s CBD.

Bikram’s death was unnoticed for nearly a week, while thousands of people walked past his body each day.

Advocates are calling for a coronial inquest to investigate Bikram’s death, hoping it will uncover the systemic failures that led to it – and give recommendations to improve the support available to people who are homeless and sleeping on the streets.

Alannah Daly from the Justice and Equity Centre and Glenn, who is a member of StreetCare, an advisory group of people who have lived experience of homelessness joined 2SER Breakfast to discuss this important issue.
