The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission LECC have partnered with the Human Rights Law Centre on an explainer to provide advice for the victims and witnesses of the protest and have created a website to upload evidence. They have also signed an open letter with the Australian Democracy Network to call for an independent inquiry into NSW protest policing.
The JEC and the Human Rights Law Centre have partnered on an explainer, advising people on actions they should take if they’ve been the victim of or have witnessed police violence.
Senior NSW Police and Politicians say laws that were recently passed related to protests justifies the actions carried out by the police. However, civil rights advocates say there should be investigations as there are limits to police powers and their response.
Sophie Leaver, a Senior Solicitor at the Justice and Equity Centre and one of the many advocates that support the investigation, joined 2SER Breakfast to discuss.
