Submission to the Department of Industry Science and Resources (DISR) Securing Australia’s Domestic Gas Supply Consultation Paper

PIAC made a submission to the federal Department of Industry, Science and Resources ‘Securing Australia’s domestic gas supply: issues paper’ (the Paper). The Paper sought feedback on how to strengthen Australian domestic gas supply.

PIAC supported this review process, highlighting its important role in ensuring households have secure and affordable access to the energy they need. We argued the process as set out in the Draft was inappropriately isolated from climate and energy transition, industry, and other policy considerations. PIAC recommended that gas supply and demand management measures should be an integral plank in a co-ordinated strategy to drive a rapid, equitable, affordable, and sustainable transition to a zero emissions economy. We highlighted opportunities to improve community benefit derived from Australian Gas resources and provided detailed recommendations regarding more appropriate objectives and principles for the review process.
