PIAC responded to the AER’s draft decision from their Stakeholder Engagement Framework Review. PIAC supports the AER’s commitment to genuine stakeholder engagement and considers the Stakeholder Engagement Framework essential in providing a pathway through which consumers can be heard in regulatory decision making. PIAC made three suggestions for how the AER’s commendable work could be further improved:

  • The inclusion of a specific commitment to proactive consumer engagement;
  • A further focus on measuring their work in accessible and inclusive engagement; and
  • Increased coordination between energy market institutions where they are engaging on similar issues.
