PIAC made a joint submission with Ethnic Communities’ Council NSW and Physical Disability Council NSW to the Australian Energy Regulator’s (AER) Developing the Better Bills Guideline Consultation Paper. We responded to the research commissioned by the AER which indicated that a significant majority of consumers would like to have best offer, reference price, plan summaries and benchmark information included in their bills. The research also indicated consumers want information about their solar PV system and energy saving tips included on their bills.

We recommend the AER include people with lived experience of being an edge user into their better bills process, investigate what other information consumers would value on their bills and undertake focus group research with people who are having difficulties paying their energy bill to understand their experience with energy bills.
