PIAC provided a response to the Australian Energy Market Commission’s (AEMC) draft rule determination on extending the application of the interim reliability measure (IRM) to the retailer reliability obligation (RRO).

PIAC argued against the extension, and disagrees that both the IRM and the RRO are necessary measures that support the interest of consumers. We expressed our concerns these measures unnecessarily add to regulatory complexity and contribute to excess costs which will end up burdening consumers without improving the reliability of the energy system.
