PIAC made a submission to the Federal Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on the NDIS’s inquiry into the Capability and Culture of the NDIA. Our submission noted our strong support for the NDIS and belief in its potential to improve the lives of people with disability; while recognising there is room for improvement in the way it is administered.

Our submission is grounded in our direct experience engaging with the Agency on operational and policy matters, and the views and feedback we have received from participants and representative organisations. In particular, it addresses the:

  • agency’s failure to place participants at the centre of NDIS policies and decision-making;
  • lack of transparency and public oversight into the Agency’s administration; and
  • shortfalls of skills, experience and knowledge by the Agency.

We provided three central recommendations and 19 additional recommendations to address the fundamental issues and problematic practices that cause stress and hardship for NDIS participants.
