In partnership with the Climate Council, Australian Council of Social Service, Renew, CHOICE and many other organisations (see file attached), PIAC made a submission to Federal Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources on improving the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS).

The submission supported lifting energy efficiency standards for new homes in 2022 and provided a range of reasons and recommendations including:

  • Lifting energy standards cuts bills
  • Lifting energy standards reduces emissions
  • Lifting energy standards means healthier and more resilient homes
  • Lifting energy standards will make energy more affordable for all
  • Lifting energy standards is good for social equity
  • Lifting energy standards creates jobs
