Submission to DCCEEW consultation paper on Streamlining network connection processes for consumer energy resources (CER) and electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE)

The Justice and Equity Centre (JEC) made a submission to the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) consultation paper on Streamlining network connection processes for consumer energy resources (CER) and electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). Efficient integration of CER and EVSE is crucial for achieving emissions reduction targets and ensuring reliable energy services. The JEC supports the paper’s objective of simplifying the connection process, particularly as regards baseline data collection on connections and tools for assessing site capacity. However, we do not support introducing financial incentives for network businesses to expedite connections and recommend the use of reputational incentives instead. Likewise, network businesses should not be rewarded for each new EVSE connection, as this assumes all new EVSE will reduce emissions, which is not always the case.
