Submission to Commonwealth DCCEEW Electricity and Energy Sector Decarbonisation Plan Discussion Paper

PIAC, SACOSS and Tenants’ Union of NSW wrote a joint submission in response to the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) Discussion Paper on the Electricity and Energy Sector Decarbonisation Plan (the Energy Sector Plan). The Energy Sector Plan is the first of six sectoral decarbonisation plans that will inform government action on Climate Change from now until 2050.

Decarbonisation of our electricity and energy system is an incredible opportunity to ensure our energy system is efficient, affordable and sustainable that reflects energy’s role in society as an essential service. It is also an opportunity to ensure that all Australian households and communities have equitable access to the benefits of an efficient, affordable and sustainable energy system. Drawing on our work on efficient electrification, gas transition and energy system reform, our submission provided detailed recommendations on how the energy sector plan can contribute towards achieving these aims.
