Submission to Audit Office Review of Social Housing

Resource type:
Submission

The Justice and Equity Centre has made a submission to the NSW Audit Office review of social housing.

Social housing is a crucial service which ensures that people who cannot access the private housing market can have a safe and secure home. But the current system of social housing is under significant strain due to increasing rates of housing stress and homelessness, as well as historic underinvestment in social housing.

Our submission recommends a significant, continued increase in social housing to meet current and future need for housing.

We also make recommendations to:

  • improve the application process for social housing;
  • provide greater choice for tenants being offered social housing; and
  • ensure tenants are effectively supported to establish and sustain their tenancies.
