PIAC made a submission to the Australian Energy Market Commission’s (AEMC) Consultation Paper Delaying implementation of the AER Billing guideline.

Given that the Australian Energy Regulator’s (AER) Better Bills Guideline has significant benefits for consumers, we are disappointed that its implementation might be delayed. In this submission we asked the AEMC to ensure that any delay to implementation be based on robust evidence that such a delay is in the interest of consumers.

PIAC recommended consideration of whether only some aspects of the Better Bills Guideline have a delayed implementation or whether individual retailers be required to request an extension rather than the extension apply to all retailers.
