Submission on the 2024 NSW Net Zero Commission Annual Report

The JEC made a submission to the NSW Parliamentary Committee for Net Zero Future’s Inquiry into the 2024 Net Zero Commission’s Annual Report.

The JEC broadly supported the findings of the Commission in their inaugural report. We commended the Commission for providing a forthright introductory report that provides a solid foundation from which they can begin the important work they have been empowered to do.

As this inquiry is being held early in the establishment of the Commission and is responding to the first annual report, the process and desired outcomes are somewhat uncertain. In our submission we provided comment on both the inquiry process, and the process of compiling and publishing the annual report.

We provided a range of recommendations, including that the Commission provide the NSW Government with interim recommendations by mid-2025 to avoid any unnecessary delay and ensure a fast and fair transition.
