PIAC submission to the AEMC Notification of the end of a fixed benefit period rule change consultation paper

At the request of the Australian Government, the AEMC is seeking to change the National Energy Retail Rules to require energy retailers to notify consumers at the end of a fixed benefit period of their retail energy contracts. PIAC responded to the AEMC consultation paper by indicating support for the intent of the rule change. PIAC recommended that the AEMC ensure this rule change:
  • Results in better consumer information, not just more information;
  • Applies to both gas and electricity contracts;
  • Applies to both financial and non-financial benefits; and
  • Commences on 1 January 2018.
