PIAC made a submission to the Energy Security Board (ESB) Electric Vehicle Smart Charging Issues Paper.

In this submission we noted the importance of electric vehciles (EVs) in enabling the electrification of transportation, supporting emissions reduction, increasing the flexibility of the energy system, and making progress on net zero goals.

PIAC argued that a key focus of EV policy development should be on delivering outcomes for all energy consumers and not just those with EVs. We provided recommendations on policy settings to reflect the potential implications of a significant electrification of the transport fleet and to promote fairness and equity between EV and non-EV consumers during this transition.
