The NSW Government sought feedback regarding proposed amendments to the NSW Social Programs for Energy Code. PIAC welcomed the the intent of proposed amendments to improve the supporting frameworks for vulnerable and disadvantaged energy users with measures including the provision of information about rebates in community languages and the collection of data about rebate and EAPA usage. PIAC also made suggestions which would further improve outcomes for those in need. These included ensuring that energy plans offered to rebate consumers better cater to their circumstances, such as their ability or otherwise to pay on time, and seeking clarification of what constitutes “all reasonable endeavours” by retailers to contact consumers about better energy deals.
