PIAC responded to the ACCC’s discussion paper on monitoring of the electricity supply in the National Energy Market (NEM).

PIAC commends the ACCC on the comprehensive analysis undertaken as part of its Retail Electricity Pricing Inquiry (REPI) process and strongly supports using this work as the foundation for the ongoing monitoring role of the ACCC.

PIAC notes with concern governments’ inconsistent response to the comprehensive range of recommendations contained in the REPI final report, and encourages the ACCC to also consider its ongoing monitoring as a means not only to analyse the impact of those recommendations which have been implemented, but also to further develop and promote those which have not.

PIAC recommends that in addition to the assessment measures employed in the REPI, the ACCC augment ongoing monitoring with a range of additional measures.
