PIAC wrote to the Executive Director Pricing and Policy for the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) to provide recommendations and insights to help inform the 2023 Energy Retail Market Monitoring Review. IPART is the energy and water regulator for NSW.

PIAC recommended that IPART undertake analysis of actual experiences and outcomes for NSW consumers in the energy retail market. Our letter provided a detailed outline of current trends and issues that are impacting NSW household energy consumers including:

  • Payment harms
  • Retail offers, pricing and tariffs
  • Equity in a changing climate and energy system
  • Debt and disconnection
  • Assistance and rebates
  • Embedded network consumers
