PIAC responded to the NSW Productivity Commission’s Kickstarting the productivity conversation issues paper.

PIAC considers productivity is one of a number of important factors contributing to quality of life and prosperity in NSW communities, and better outcomes for all NSW households. We highlight the essential nature of energy and water services, and that ensuring their affordable, reliable and sustainable supply is critical to the health of the economy and the people who rely on it.

We provide input on issues paper questions concerning water, energy and infrastructure, and the need for a range of comprehensive structural reforms to ensure long-term efficiency and productivity of key infrastructure and services in NSW.

In particular we highlight the need for co-ordinated reform of water governance and regulation, focussing on conservation and re-use, and opportunities to use energy more efficiently and fund necessary energy infrastructure fairly and efficiently.
