PIAC responded to the draft report of the AEMC’s Review of regulatory arrangements for embedded networks. In this submission, PIAC raised a number of issues with the draft regulatory framework.

PIAC opined that the AEMC’s draft may overstate the potential for competitive retail markets to facilitate better consumer outcomes in embedded networks, and that the AEMC should fast-track reforms designed to increase consumer protections in embedded networks.

PIAC has been heavily involved in this Review. Before the draft report, PIAC:

  • Lodged a submission to the consultation paper;
  • Arranged for embedded network customers living in NSW residential parks to share their experience face to face with the AEMC, AER, ACCC and IPART;
  • Participated in AEMC public fora; and
  • Engaged extensively with the AEMC project team.
