PIAC responded to the AEMC’s Notification of the end of a fixed benefit period rule change consultation paper. PIAC supported the intent to provide better notice to consumers at the end of a benefit period of a retail energy contract.  PIAC submitted that the new rule should:

apply to both electricity and gas contracts;

  •  apply from 1 January 2018;
  • apply to both financial and non-financial benefits; and
  • require retailers to notify consumers of any change in benefits, not just those where they are financially worse off.
