The Strategic Litigation practice undertakes strategic legal casework, specialising in test cases, and brings legal expertise to systemic policy and law reform issues. The team both leads and contributes to priority projects that seek social justice.
You will work across the JEC’s Policing and Detention, NDIS and Disability Rights projects, undertaking both public interest litigation and policy work in partnership with relevant stakeholders. You will:
- run public interest test cases that contribute to changes to laws and policies
- collaborate with advocacy partners to identify opportunities for legal intervention
- supervise junior solicitors, interns, and paralegal staff
You are eligible for a practicing certificate in NSW and will ideally have litigation experience in the NSW Supreme Court and Federal Court of Australia as well as experience in relevant fields such as discrimination law, intentional torts and criminal justice law or policy. You have sound legal casework skills and a demonstrated ability to undertake high quality legal research and analysis. Additionally, you have:
- worked with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds
- experience supervising other members of a legal team
- excellent communication skills and an ability to build networks and partnerships
