We take on cases that drive change to unfair laws and practices, with benefits for both our clients and the wider community. We work in partnership with the people most deeply affected by injustice and as a determined ally, actively collaborating with community and legal partners to maximise our impact.
We have been fighting injustice and inequality since 1982 when we were established as the Public Interest Advocacy Centre. Our work has achieved major advances for human rights and social justice. We have been determined, principled and tenacious in holding government and corporations to account for unjust, unfair and inhumane treatment.

‘For many years in detention I couldn’t get medical treatment because of handcuffs. When the Justice and Equity Centre take my case I was very sick. After many complaints we go to court and the handcuffing stopped. This got a little bit of my rights and showed how wrong what they did to me was. I want to say thanks to all the lawyers who worked hard to help me.’
