Our work improves the lives of people facing disadvantage and injustice.
We take on cases that drive change to unfair laws and practices, with benefits for our clients and the wider community. We work in partnership with the people most deeply affected by injustice and as a determined ally, actively collaborating with community and legal partners to maximise our impact.
In the 2024-25 financial year, we:
Helped 733 people resolve their legal problems
Secured $459,111 for clients in financial relief and entitlements
Provided 276 organisations with legal and policy expertise
Influenced decision-makers with 303 briefings and submissions
Leveraged $14.6M of pro bono support from partners
Spoke up for justice in the media, reaching up to 2.5M people a month

Our record
We have been fighting injustice and inequality since 1982 when we were established as the Public Interest Advocacy Centre. Our work has achieved major advances for human rights and social justice. We have been determined, principled and tenacious in holding government and corporations to account for unjust, unfair and inhumane treatment.
How we make change
We tackle injustice and inequality by:
Exposing
laws, policies and practices that cause or entrench disadvantage

Challenging
decision-makers over actions that are unlawful or unfair
Indentifying
solutions to deliver fair, practical outcomes
Engaging
with the public and decision-makers to bring about change
Empowering
people to initiate, inform and influence positive change and become leaders in social justice
