StreetCare marks homelessness week with special performance

The meaning of home, the challenges of homelessness and the strength of community – these were all brought into focus by our lived experience advisory group StreetCare at a special Homelessness Week performance.

StreetCare empowers its members to share their stories to make change. For Homelessness Week, the group presented a poignant performance on the theme ‘home’, hosted by Belvoir St Theatre.

StreetCare members shared their experiences and reflected on what home means to them through drama, music, puppet shows and photography.

‘Powerfully Powerless,’ a poem by StreetCare member Jacob, reflected the needs of those experiencing homelessness: ‘All we want is to get back on our feet. All we want is something hot to eat. All we need is a space shut off from the elements. All we want is a place to call home.’

We were pleased to be joined by representatives from NSW Parliament, local council, homelessness organisations and government agencies, to recognise the week and commit to working together to end homelessness.
