PIAC receives AbSec’s ‘Walking Together’ award
PIAC is honoured to have received the ‘Walking Together’ award at the 2023 AbSec gala dinner.
AbSec is the peak organisation for Aboriginal children and families in NSW. AbSec works to empower Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities impacted by the child protection system, and supports a quality Aboriginal community-controlled child and family sector.
The ‘Walking Together’ award recognises the contribution of a non-Aboriginal agency in partnering with Aboriginal communities in service design and delivery, achieving outcomes for Aboriginal families and communities.
The judging panel said:
‘PIAC’s Family is Culture advocacy is a perfect demonstration of PIAC’s standing with Aboriginal communities and organisations to achieve change.’
‘PIAC have consistently dedicated resources including staff time to provide assistance to support the implementation of key legislation, including everything from taking minutes and coordinating regular meetings to providing expert advice and standing with Aboriginal peak bodies in public advocacy and behind the scenes. No task has been too small, or too big, and PIAC have approached every task with diligence and generosity.’
PIAC’s work supporting the Family is Culture working group is led by Jonathan Hall Spence, Emma Bastable, Emily McCarron (pictured) and Kate Sinclair, and previously by Brooke Greenwood and Camilla Pandolfini.
We’re proud to walk alongside AbSec, the Aboriginal Legal Service and the UTS Jumbunna Institute to do this important work.
