ABC News: Kinchela Aboriginal Boys Home survivors mark 100 years as push continues for museum

ABC News excerpt:

Scrutiny around Kinchela Aboriginal Boys Home’s operations emerged as early as the 1930s, according to Towards Truth research project.

The initiative, led by the Justice and Equity Centre and the University of New South Wales Indigenous Law Centre, has analysed state laws and policies that exploited boys at the home.

Its research referred to a report by the state’s Public Service Board, published between 1938–1940, that found the facility “did not meet the necessary requirements of a government ‘training home’ as it did not have a trained teacher”.
