2SER: The fight to protect Indigenous fishing rights in NSW

For millennia, Aboriginal people in NSW have stewarded fisheries resources.

Despite the recognition of Indigenous fishing rights in native title laws, the NSW Government fails to uphold them.

Over the past 20 years, Aboriginal fishing rights have often been ignored, leading to a disproportionate number of Aboriginal people being unlawfully prosecuted. 

Sally Treveton, Anaiwan Biripi woman and Legal Research Officer for Towards Truth joined 2SER Breakfast to explain why this is happening and what needs to change.
