ABC News: Woman takes Uber to Federal Court over repeated guide dog refusals

For decades, Paula Hobley has used guide dogs to help her get around confidently and safely. The Victorian woman, who is blind, is unable to drive so relies on services like taxis and Ubers to meet friends, do her shopping and go to medical appointments.

However, she said Uber drivers have been increasingly refusing to pick her up because they don’t want to take her guide dog.

Jonathon Hunyor — the CEO of the Justice and Equity Centre, which is representing Ms Hobley — said Uber needed to do better.

“They make handsome profits out of this system. They owe it to the community to make sure that system doesn’t discriminate,” he said.
