Reconciliation Action Plan
Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) commits us to practical action to promote the rights of First Nations people. It guides us to provide a culturally safe environment for First Nations staff, partners and clients, and opportunities for the wider Justice and Equity Centre community to strengthen understanding of the central place that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have in our nation’s history and future.
Our first RAP was launched in July 2017 and this RAP 2023-2026 is our third. It builds on the work we have done to strengthen our relationships with First Nations partner organisations and create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to work at the Justice and Equity Centre.
Our RAP remains impact- and action-driven. We have removed initiatives that are now ‘business as usual’ and have focused on commitments that support us to enhance our approach to reconciliation.
Our key commitments include:
-
- developing a new three-year cultural learning strategy that is targeted to the responsibilities of various staff groups and focuses on different areas of learning each year;
- increasing opportunities for development and hiring of First Nations staff; and
- developing a new partnership strategy to guide our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and partner organisations across the Justice and Equity Centre’s program areas.
