In this submission, PIAC reiterated its concerns about the NSW Networks’ proposed tariff structure statements. In previous submissions and presentations, PIAC expressed concerns about the cost reflectivity of the proposed tariffs and the lack of choice in tariff designs for consumers. In addition, PIAC recommended that the AER reject the proposed declining block tariffs as this does not provide the appropriate price signals to consumers and in fact sends the opposite signal about energy conservation and efficiency to consumers. This is inappropriate given Australia’s commitments to reducing our carbon output to meet international objectives. Finally, PIAC reiterated its concerns over the networks consultation process and the quality of information presented by the networks to demonstrate the impact of the proposed tariffs on households. PIAC welcomed the opportunity to work more closely with the networks in preparation for the next round of tariff proposals.
