Leaving a gift in your Will can be a powerful legacy for the social justice issues that are important to you.
By leaving a gift to the Justice and Equity Centre, you will help to improve the lives of people facing injustice and disadvantage. It will fund our on-going work to change unfair and unjust laws and practices.
At the Justice and Equity Centre, we achieve social justice through strategic litigation and by influencing decision-makers on important social issues including asylum seeker rights, homelessness, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice, police accountability and equality, including for people with disability.
Into the future, we know there will be new human rights challenges to tackle as we face emerging threats such as climate change, an increasing wealth gap and growing numbers of asylum seekers displaced by conflict. By choosing to support the Justice and Equity Centre in your Will, you can make a lasting difference. Every gift, large or small, will help us achieve our vision for a fairer, stronger society.
Everyone should have a Will to ensure their possessions and assets go to the people and causes they care about most.
A gift in your Will, also known as a bequest, is an instruction directing some of your estate to be gifted to a person, charity or organisation. It can be in the form of money, property, shares and debentures, or other valuables. You don’t have to be wealthy to make a gift in your Will – whatever you choose to give will make a difference.
To make a gift in your Will to the Justice and Equity Centre, we suggest the following wording for consideration by your legal advisor.
‘I bequeath [insert as appropriate: (the sum of $XX) or (a percentage of my residuary estate) or (all rights, title and interest in {description of specified land or property} free of all duties)] for the general purposes of the Justice and Equity Centre Ltd (ABN 77 002 773 524), Level 5, 175 Liverpool Street, Sydney, NSW 2000. I declare that receipt of an authorised officer of Justice and Equity Centre Ltd shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the executor(s).’
Telling your executor, your family or others who are entitled to your estate about the gift will ensure your decision to leave a gift is understood.
