Submission to AEMO Draft Gas Infrastructure Options Report

The JEC made a submission to the Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) Draft Gas Infrastructure Options Report. This is a new document to the ISP process and will be an input to the Inputs, Assumptions and Scenarios Report.

We noted that carbon emissions are not included in AEMO’s assessment of the costs of different options, and recommended that these were added using the Australian Energy Regulator’s Value of Emissions. Failure to do this artificially boosts the attractiveness of gas options relative to less emitting alternatives and imperils AEMO’s capacity to fulfil its commitment to the National Gas Objective.
