Submission to AEMC Inter-regional settlements residue arrangements for transmission loops

The JEC made a submission to the Australian Energy Market Commission’s (AEMC) rule change process considering changes to the way monies collected as a result of the settlement of the dispatch using a different price to the settlement of payments occurring in the NEM every 5 minutes (the ‘residues’). 

We noted the inadequacy of the Australian Energy Market Operator’s engagement with consumers or consumer advocates in their consideration of this issue over the last two years, and proposed the AEMC reviews the new arrangement, whatever it is, in two years time in order to judge whether it is maximising the value falling to consumers and is in line with consumer preferences.
