Alana joined the Justice and Equity Centre’s Energy and Water Justice (EWJ) team in November 2022 as a Policy Officer. Alana leads EWJ’s work on efficient electrification of homes and on the retail market.
Alana is passionate about our energy future. Growing up in the coal mining region of the Hunter Valley she has first-hand experience of energy production in rural regions, and the profound social impacts energy policy can have on people. Over the past decade this passion has driven her to develop skills and knowledge of policy analysis and advocacy, community engagement and qualitative research.
Previously, Alana was a community engagement officer with RE-Alliance, a not-for-profit organisation advocating for regional benefits from the energy transition. In this role she focused on research and advocacy to ensure that the roll-out of Renewable Energy Zones in NSW engaged with the community to share benefits. She has also worked as a Campaigns and Media Advisor for NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon, and in organiser roles with GetUp, NSW Nature Conservation Council and World Animal Protection.
Alana has a PhD in energy sociology which she completed with the UTS Climate, Society and Environment Research Centre.
