Submission

PIAC made a submission in response to Statutory review of the WaterNSW act 2014 issues paper. We highlighted the need for more focused objectives, linked to long term water policy planning. Recognising and addressing the risks and impacts of climate change on water security, and ensuring better ability to monitor and evaluate progress must be priorities.

PIAC also raised the need to consider further reform to the governance and responsibility for catchments and water resources in the Sydney area. Sydney Water, with more direct links to the community, and with significant resources and expertise, may more effectively manage Sydney’s water catchments and water sources in the best interests of the community, with consolidated responsibility.
