Independent review of the Energy Security Board

PIAC responded to the independent review of the Energy Security Board (ESB), an organisation we have engaged with in numerous processes including through submissions, public forums, technical working groups, and bilateral meetings with ESB members and staff.

We believe the ESB should focus on the outcomes and impact it has achieved rather than how closely it has followed processes. We highlight the ESB has taken on a more strategic and coordinating role than originally anticipated due to challenges facing the National Energy Market. We consider this role has been beneficial, providing ministers with confidence, allowing market institutions to focus on their respective roles and in turn giving industry more certainty to invest and participate.

We encourage the ESB to continue to improve its consultation and engagement in its processes.
