PIAC, ACOSS and SACOSS provided a response to the AER’s Issues Paper on Default Paper Offer Prices 24-25.

Our submission highlighted the need for reform of the DMO to implement a wider, more consistent application of default pricing in conjunction with a stronger focus on efficiency. The DMO is no longer fit-for-purpose and is not providing optimal outcomes for household energy consumers.

We suggested that DMO 24-25 be an interim step while wider reforms to the DMO are investigated. Given the current cost of living crisis and increased complaints about high energy bills, we recommended that DMO 24-25 prioritise energy affordability over other considerations including retail competition and consumer engagement.
