Submission to AEMC Unlocking consumer energy resources (CER) benefits through flexible trading directions paper

PIAC made a submission to the AEMCs Unlocking consumer energy resources (CER) benefits through flexible trading directions paper.

Flexible trading can benefit all consumers by increasing retail competition and expanding choice around how consumers manage and engage with their energy resources.

PIAC does not support the AEMCs proposal not to progress flexible trading for small consumers and is concerned this approach unreasonably delays progress which would benefit all consumers. We recommended the AEMC initially introduce a limited schedule of flexible resources that may participate in these arrangements and gradually expand eligibility over time.

This would enable flexible trading to be introduced in areas where the risk of consumer harm is low and ensure the full value of these resources is realised.
