Letter to the Committee on Community Services: We need adequate investment to address the social housing shortage, not more insecure housing options

The Homeless Persons’ Legal Service (HPLS) at PIAC wrote to the inquiry into ‘Options to improve access to existing and alternate accommodation to address the social housing shortage’. ‘Meanwhile use’, the temporary use of vacant land or dwellings for temporary accommodation until they are required for their end purpose, is the main option examined by the inquiry.

HPLS outlined the concerns we have about focusing on providing more insecure housing options at the expense of planning for adequate investment in social housing and support services for people experiencing homelessness.
