Draft Report National Water Reform

PIAC responded to the Productivity Commission’s (PC) draft report on National Water Reform.

We note significant progress in reform has been made since the initial National Water Initiative (NWI) agreement in 2004, however it has been inconsistent, and in many cases has stalled or even been reversed as a result of short term political and economic pragmatism. We call for urgent reform of water policy, planning and management to ensure the long-term sustainability of water supplies across the state.

PIAC responded to various advice contained in the draft report and made recommendations to improve water policy transparency, governance and inclusion of Aboriginal people and communities at the state and national levels.
